Como Lake Gardens YWCA
Community Housing Mural - 2016
During the Summer of 2015, I reached out to the YWCA in the Vancouver area to see if they had any large areas in need of beautification. I was about to start a position as a full time Art Teacher for High School students at York House School and wanted to bring the mural making experience to the grade 9 students. The new YWCA community for women and children, Como Lake Gardens, had a large wall next to their children's room and it was completely bare. It houses 40 children, and they would greatly benefit from having a happier, more colourful place. This project offered a great opportunity for students to see art as more than simply personal expression, but also a means to make a positive difference in other people's lives.
