Sparks Sculptures
With this project, I involved every Art student from grades 9 to 12 at York House School and invited them to create a self-portrait sculpture, with their Sparks, their likes, dislikes, fears and anything they may feel comfortable sharing. This idea was inspired by the delightful and whimsical work of Geoffrey Farmer. Like so many students, he didn't believe he was talented; finally, he found his mean of expression through collage. This frees students to play with composition and colour without feeling like they are at a disadvantage, and it was the perfect first project of the year.
The resulting statues were amazingly detailed. They put a lot of work into these. We celebrated their efforts by presenting a show on the school foyer.
Below, some select statues and a few shots of the foyer display. For an all-around view of the sculptures, as well as access to all 64 statues in detail, please click here.
